Features

What PodSteer does.

PodSteer is a free, open-source desktop client for Kubernetes that assesses a cluster instead of listing it. Every capability below is in the one Apache-2.0 application — there is no paid tier of the client and nothing to sign in to.

Cluster assessment

Ranked findings instead of a pod list: crash loops, OOM kills, pods that will never schedule, sizing problems — each with what to do about it.

Topology and traffic

One namespace, several or all of them as one map — every line a relationship Kubernetes has — with observed traffic from Istio, Linkerd, Beyla, Caretta or Hubble.

Day-2 operations

Apply any kind including CRDs, roll back, drain, bulk-act with a review step — and see the kubectl command for each.

GitOps: Argo CD and Flux

Typed panels for Argo CD Applications and Flux Kustomizations and HelmReleases, and a warning before any change a controller will undo.

Helm releases

Every Helm release and revision, listed from labels alone; one revision's values and manifest read only when you ask.

Security and RBAC

Privileges a spec takes, vulnerabilities your scanner already found, and what an account can actually do — answered by the API server.

MCP server and coding agents

podsteer mcp: nineteen read-only tools for Claude Code and other agents, over stdio — no port, no writes, Secret values masked.

Shells and terminals

Exec, debug containers, node shells, an in-cluster shell and your own local terminal — with the pods PodSteer creates cleaned up after.

Multi-cluster

Real tabs, one cluster each; one table across every open cluster; clusters found through your own cloud CLI.

Operator panels

Built-in views for cert-manager, KEDA, External Secrets, Argo Rollouts, Trivy, Karpenter, Gateway API and more — no plugin API, nothing to install.

The things you notice on the second day.

  • A command palette that searches kinds, objects and open clusters without firing a request per keystroke.
  • Custom columns from any label, annotation or JSONPath expression, saved per kind.
  • Saved views, favourites and recents, and keyboard shortcuts you can rebind.
  • Logs that stream every container at once, parse JSON and logfmt, fold stack traces and filter by regular expression.
  • A dependency map for any object, drawn only from relationships Kubernetes really has.
  • Opt-in charts from a Prometheus or VictoriaMetrics already running in the cluster.
  • Light, dark or follow the system — and settings you can export and hand to a colleague.
