What Lens Desktop is
Lens Desktop is the best-known graphical Kubernetes client, with a mature extension ecosystem and commercial support behind it. It is worth being precise about what it is today, because it changed: the open source version was retired, and the product now requires an account and — above a revenue threshold — a paid subscription for everyone who uses it.

Be honest
When Lens Desktop is the better choice.
Choose Lens when you need its extension ecosystem, or when a support contract and a vendor to call are worth more than a licence you keep. It is a mature product with years of work in it, and PodSteer has no extension API at all — if your workflow depends on one, that is the end of the comparison.
The other way round
When PodSteer fits.
PodSteer fits when the account, the threshold or the licence are the problem. Apache-2.0 is a grant you keep rather than a tier you can age out of by growing, and there is nothing to sign in to. It also assesses rather than displays, which is a different job from the one a dashboard does.
