PodSteer v0.3.0

The largest release so far, and the one that makes PodSteer a day-to-day tool rather than a read-only one. It adds Helm, a Security page and an RBAC explorer, GitOps awareness for Argo CD and Flux, typed panels for the operators people run, safe writes of any kind, and a read-only MCP server for coding agents — and moves the application onto Wails v3.

What you need to know.

  • macOS 13 Ventura or later is now required. Earlier versions of macOS can keep using v0.2.0.
  • Your history retention setting carries over automatically into the new settings file.
  • Homebrew users: brew update, then brew upgrade --cask podsteer.

Knowing what is wrong

  • Rightsizing findings: over-reserved workloads, CPU throttling at the limit, memory over request.
  • An upgrade-impact check that finds APIs the next Kubernetes version removes, by who still writes through them.
  • A session timeline per object and per cluster: events, findings appearing and clearing, and PodSteer's own writes.
  • Optional desktop notifications for a new critical finding, off by default.
  • The detail panel follows the manifest's order, shows Version and Updated, describes CronJob schedules in words and resolves downward-API environment values.

Changing a cluster

  • Apply any kind, custom resources included, with server-side apply and field conflicts named with their owners.
  • Rollout history, revision diff and rollback for Deployments, StatefulSets and DaemonSets.
  • Cordon, drain with a per-node preview, and evict through the PodDisruptionBudget-respecting API.
  • Bulk delete, evict, restart, scale and cordon with a review step.
  • Set image, in-place pod resize, CronJob run-now and suspend, create from a skeleton, duplicate, and a side-by-side object diff.
  • The kubectl equivalent of every write, and Copy as kubectl on any row.

GitOps and Helm

  • Typed panels for Argo CD Applications and Flux Kustomizations and HelmReleases.
  • A warning before any change a GitOps controller will revert, with rollback-specific guidance.
  • Recognition of Secrets written by the External Secrets Operator.
  • Helm releases and revisions, listed from labels alone; one revision's values and manifest read on request, with Secrets masked.

Security

  • A Security page: the privileges pod specs take, and vulnerabilities quoted from the Trivy Operator.
  • An RBAC explorer: what an account can do, answered by the API server, and risky role rules flagged.

Shells, agents and files

  • Ephemeral debug containers, node shells, an in-cluster shell and a local terminal (including Windows).
  • podsteer mcp: a read-only Model Context Protocol server with eighteen tools, over stdio.
  • Start Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or Copilot CLI from the local terminal, pointed at the tab's cluster.
  • File copy to and from containers, a container file browser, reachability probes and Service port-forwards.

Clusters, views and customisation

  • An All-clusters view for any kind, and a Multi-kind table with saved kind sets.
  • Cloud cluster discovery through your aws, az, gcloud or doctl CLI.
  • A kubeconfig folder, in-app kubeconfig sources and proxy settings.
  • Custom columns from labels, annotations or JSONPath; saved views; configurable shortcuts; a command palette.
  • Typed panels for cert-manager, KEDA, External Secrets, Argo Rollouts, Trivy, Karpenter, Gateway API, DRA and admission policies.
  • Opt-in charts from a Prometheus or VictoriaMetrics already in the cluster.
  • A minimap on maximised logs and manifests, and log parsing for JSON and logfmt.

The application

  • Moved from Wails v2 to Wails v3.
  • The light theme is rebuilt, with text contrast tested against WCAG AA.
  • Settings live in a settings file the application owns, and can be exported and imported.
